Understanding the Hub & Spoke Integration Monitor

A visual guide to the iPaaS.com real-time integration dashboard and what the dots, spokes, and status indicators are telling you.

The Hub & Spoke Integration Monitor is a live visual dashboard that shows how data moves between iPaaS.com and each of your connected external systems. Every element on the chart — circle sizes, dot movements, line colors — represents real operational data. This guide explains what each element means so you can monitor your integrations at a glance.

What you see: the chart layout

The dashboard uses a hub-and-spoke layout. iPaaS.com sits at the center (the hub), and each of your connected systems appears as a circle around it (the spokes).

  • iPaaS.com hub — The dark circle at the center, ringed in red, represents iPaaS.com. All data flows pass through the hub. No external system ever communicates directly with another; every transfer goes through iPaaS.com first.

  • Integration nodes — Each colored circle around the hub represents one connected external system, such as NetSuite, Shopify, or any other integration you have configured. Every integration has its own unique color. Red is never used for integrations — it is reserved exclusively for the iPaaS.com hub.

  • Spoke lines — The line connecting each integration to the hub represents that integration's active data channel. The line's appearance changes to communicate the channel's current health (see Spoke line states below).

The faint dashed rings in the background are depth guides that reinforce the hub-and-spoke structure. They do not represent data.

Node size: daily transfer volume

The diameter of each integration circle scales with the total number of data records transferred today — records moving toward the hub (outbound hooks) plus records moving away from the hub (inbound hooks). A larger circle means more data activity. Integrations with zero transfers today appear at the minimum size.

For example, an integration with 421 total records today will appear noticeably larger than one with 16 records.

Node label and record count

Each circle displays the integration's name, truncated to fit within the circle diameter. If the full name does not fit, it ends with an ellipsis (…). You can always see the full name by hovering over the node.

Outside the circle, along the spoke line, the dashboard displays the total daily record count. When no records have been transferred today, this reads 0 rec.

Moving dots: data in transit

Animated dots traveling along the spoke lines represent data records being transferred. The dot color, direction, size, and speed each communicate different information.

Direction

  • Bright-colored dots moving inward toward the hub (outbound hooks) represent records being sent from the external system to iPaaS.com for processing.

  • Dark-colored dots moving outward away from the hub (inbound hooks) represent records being delivered from iPaaS.com to the external system. These dots use a darker shade of the same color as the integration, so you can tell the direction at a glance.

  • No dots on a spoke means that integration has transferred zero records today in either direction. The spoke line remains visible and still reflects the channel's health state, but there is no data traffic to animate. The node label will confirm this with 0 rec.

Size

The size of each moving dot reflects the average payload size per flow. Larger dots mean heavier payloads — more data per individual hook.

Speed

Faster-moving dots indicate lower average transfer times. Dot speed gives you a rough visual comparison across your integrations — faster-moving dots mean higher activity relative to your other integrations."

Health ring: error rate

A two-tone arc drawn just inside each node's border shows today's success-to-failure ratio for that integration's hooks.

What is a hook? In iPaaS.com, a hook is a data flow between iPaaS.com and an external system. A hook is either inbound (data flowing TO iPaaS.com from the external system) or outbound (data flowing FROM the external system to iPaaS.com). When this article refers to hooks firing, queuing, or failing, it means individual data flows.

  • Green arc — The proportion of today's hooks that completed successfully. A fully green ring means zero errors today.

  • Red arc — The proportion of today's hooks that resulted in errors. A fully red ring means every hook today has failed.

  • Dashed gray ring — No hooks have fired today, so there is no success or error data to display yet.

Tip: A large red arc combined with a slow-moving spoke and many queue dots (described below) is a strong signal that an integration is backing up due to repeated failures.

Queue dots: hooks waiting to process

Small filled dots cluster just outside each integration node, starting near the spoke line and arcing counter-clockwise. These represent the number of hooks currently queued and waiting to be processed. Each dot matches the integration's assigned color.

The number of dots shown is grouped into ranges:

Tip: Many queue dots on a spoke with slow-moving transfer dots suggest a backlog is forming. That is, hooks are entering the queue faster than they are being processed.

Spoke line states

The appearance of each spoke line tells you the current operating state of that integration's data channel.

  • Dashed gray — Normal operation. Data is flowing within expected parameters.

  • Pulsing orange dashes — This integration is currently throttled. iPaaS.com is intentionally rate-limiting data flow, typically to prevent the external system from being overwhelmed.

  • Solid red — One or more hooks are frozen or suspended. Data transfer has been paused and requires attention before processing can resume.

Throttle indicator

When an integration is throttled, two visual cues appear together:

  1. The node displays a pulsing orange dashed border ring around the circle.

  2. A symbol appears above the spoke line, approximately two-thirds of the way toward the hub.

Both the orange spoke and the ⊘ symbol must be present for an integration to be considered throttled.

Hover tooltips

Hovering over any integration node displays a tooltip with the exact values behind every visual indicator:

  • Full system name

  • Records sent to iPaaS.com and records received from iPaaS.com today

  • Average transfer time (in milliseconds)

  • Average payload size per hook

  • Number of hooks currently queued, with the corresponding dot count

  • Error rate as a percentage, with raw counts (errors / total hooks today)

  • Throttle status (when applicable)

  • Frozen/suspended status (when applicable)

Color conventions

Red is always reserved for iPaaS.com. The hub's border, glow, and branding all use red tones. No integration node is ever assigned red, ensuring the hub is always visually distinct.

Integration colors are drawn from a fixed set of eight non-red colors: blue, purple, green, amber, pink, teal, cyan, and lime. Dots moving toward the hub (outbound hooks) use the brighter version of the color; dots moving away from the hub (inbound hooks) use a darker version of the same color.
