External IDs

Use External IDs in iPaaS.com

Updated over 3 weeks ago

External IDs reference corresponding IDs in external systems. These IDs can help find and troubleshoot issues across integrated platforms. You create and add these External IDs to use data in another system as needed (although typically they are set by the integration when creating or updating the record). External IDs exist at both the data model level and all child levels and for relationships, that is, category assignments.. For example, you can link a product to a category using an external category ID.

NOTE: iPaaS.com record types do not have the ability to save external IDs or custom fields. The assignment feature does not support external IDs. Instead, it relies on the categories themselves having external IDs to perform the assignments.

External IDs are only available on edit screens, not create screens.

Adding External IDs

While each External ID is different, adding an external ID is the same for all data models.

To add an External ID:

  1. Click Data Management and choose a data model. For example, choose Customers.

  2. Select a customer in the list. You can also use the filter and search fields or search by External ID.

  3. In the External IDs section, click Add.

  4. In the Add External ID dialog, enter an External ID value and select the External System in which the ID exists.

  5. Click Apply, and the information is added to the record.

NOTE: iPaaS.com does not validate the External ID you entered. If it isn't valid, it is reported in the Error Logs.

Editing External IDs

You can edit a custom field to update the External ID or External System.

To edit an External ID:

  1. On the edit screen, select the field from the list and click the edit icon.

  2. In the Edit External ID dialog, make changes to the External ID and External System.

  3. Click Apply, and your changes are saved.
