iPaaS.com MCP: Tool Reference - Always-Available Tools

The tools that are on every iPaaS.com MCP connection, whichever domains you choose: checking your key, finding help, and reference information (beta).

Before you start to use our MCP, please review the following items:

  • Ensure you have completed the iPaaS.com platform training before using this to best understand what is going on. If you need to gain access to it reach out to partnerships@ipaas.com.

  • With great power comes great responsibility - the MCP can do things like trigger a sync for your entire catalog and modify (or remove) data from your account. Ensure you understand what you want it to do before you work with it. iPaaS.com is not responsible for restoring any data or configuration changes made using the MCP.

  • Measure twice, cut once: When working with this, planning ahead of time (or asking the MCP to plan for you) will greatly benefit your work.

  • Remember that this is in beta so some features may be added, removed or altered as we continue our development. The latest change log notes can be found here.

  • If you have any issues or need to report a bug please reach out to us at mcp@ipaas.com.

These tools are on every connection, whichever domains you choose (see Choosing Your Tools). You don't normally type tool names. Ask in plain language and the assistant picks the tool. The names are here so you can recognise them and ask for one directly.

Tool

What it does

Changes data?

check_my_permissions

Shows what your API key can and can't do, area by area. Run it first on a new key, because a missing permission only breaks the tools in that area.

No

get_active_tenant

Tells you which company the connection is bound to, which systems are connected to it, and whether your credential is an API key or a sign-in token (with its expiry date, if it has one).

No

find_help_articles

Finds help center articles for an integration or an error, ranked with debugging help first. For an error, it searches the integration's Error Messages article.

No

explain_subscription_setup

Answers requests like "connect Shopify" or "set up NetSuite". It can't set up a connected system, because that needs the system's own credentials, which shouldn't pass through a chat. It gives you the connector's installation guide instead, or points you to support@ipaas.com when there isn't one.

No

match_data_type

Maps a term from another system, such as "Stock Level", to the iPaaS.com data type it means.

No

get_data_model

Serves a reference document about the iPaaS.com data model: how data types relate, translation types and known gaps.

No

list_platform_categories and get_platform_category

The categories of connected system (eCommerce, ERP, PIM and so on), and the full profile of one category.

No

build_ipaas_url

Builds a link to a record, error or configuration screen in the iPaaS.com portal.

No

parse_ipaas_url

Decodes a portal URL you paste in: which screen it is, what each ID in it means, and which tools open it.

No

get_api_contract

Reads the iPaaS.com API's own documentation for a service: request models, parameters, responses and notes on fields. Useful when a request fails in a way you can't explain.

No

Permissions

These tools don't need a particular permission to appear. check_my_permissions reads one item from each area to see what your key can reach, and get_active_tenant reads your connected systems, so a key without the Subscription permission sees less in its answer. See Getting Started for the full list.
