iPaaS.com MCP: Tool Reference - Business

The Business tools in the iPaaS.com MCP server: the four business reports and the field map tools (beta).

Before you start to use our MCP, please review the following items:

  • Ensure you have completed the iPaaS.com platform training before using this to best understand what is going on. If you need to gain access to it reach out to partnerships@ipaas.com.

  • With great power comes great responsibility - the MCP can do things like trigger a sync for your entire catalog and modify (or remove) data from your account. Ensure you understand what you want it to do before you work with it. iPaaS.com is not responsible for restoring any data or configuration changes made using the MCP.

  • Measure twice, cut once: When working with this, planning ahead of time (or asking the MCP to plan for you) will greatly benefit your work.

  • Remember that this is in beta so some features may be added, removed or altered as we continue our development. The latest change log notes can be found here.

  • If you have any issues or need to report a bug please reach out to us at mcp@ipaas.com.

These are the tools that answer business questions in plain language, and the tools that set up a field map for them. Connect with https://mcp.ipaas.com/mcp/business?audience=business to get just these, with results written in plain language (see Choosing Your Tools). For how to use them, and what each report can and can't tell you, see Business Reports.

The tools

Reports

All four are read-only. Each result starts with a one-sentence summary, then the figures, then the limits of what the data can support.

Tool

What it does

Changes data?

summarize_sales_performance

Orders, revenue, average order value, units and discounts for a period, split by connected system and by day, week or month. Optionally adds the status mix, top customers and top products. The period defaults to the last 30 days.

No

check_inventory_health

Checks stock across locations: what is out of stock, low, negative or overstocked, where the sellable quantity has drifted from the on-hand quantity, and where one location is empty while another is full. Also gives stock value at cost.

No

flag_stuck_orders

Lists orders that didn't reach their destination, grouped by order, with the system that rejected each one and the likely cause. With a destination system, it also finds orders that were never linked to that system.

No

gift_card_liability_report

Outstanding gift card balances for finance, dormant and expiring cards for marketing, and a comparison of each card's stored balance against its activity history.

No

Field maps

A field map says which of your custom fields holds a business value that iPaaS.com has no native field for yet, such as currency, sales channel or reorder point.

Tool

What it does

Changes data?

suggest_field_map

Builds a suggested field map from your real custom field definitions, with a confidence for each match and a list of the values it couldn't match.

No

collect_field_map

Asks you about each unmapped value, one question at a time, with candidates from your custom fields and a reason for each. It tells you whether your answer changes a report today or is stored for later. It never decides for you.

No

get_field_map

Shows your saved field map and which values are still unmapped.

No

save_field_map

Saves the map in your iPaaS.com company, so everyone gets the same answers. New answers are merged with what is already saved.

Yes (preview first)

clear_field_map

Removes the saved map for the whole company. It names what will be lost first, and it can't be undone.

Yes (preview first)

Good to know

  • These show the current state, not history. They are not an accounting ledger, so expect differences from other systems.

  • Only the two field map tools that save and clear change anything, and both preview first. See Safety, Permissions and Limits.

  • A mapped value that is empty on a record is reported, never guessed.

Permissions

Give your key View on the data each report reads: Transaction and Lookup for sales; Product, Product Variant, Product Inventory, Product Variant Inventory and Location for inventory; Error, Integration Monitoring Error Logs, Transaction, Subscription and External Id for stuck orders; and Gift Card for gift cards. Field maps use Subscription and Custom Field, and saving or clearing one also needs the permission to change it. See Getting Started. Ask the assistant to check your permissions if a tool returns a 401.
