Philips Hue Connections and Settings

How to connect a Philips Hue subscription to iPaaS.com using OAuth, and what each subscription setting does.

See what the Philips Hue integration can do →

Integrate iPaaS.com with Philips Hue to send light commands to your Hue devices when records change in iPaaS.com.

How to Connect

Prerequisites

Before setting up the Philips Hue integration, make sure you have:

  • Philips Hue account: an active account you can sign in to at the Philips Hue portal.

  • Philips Hue Bridge: a Bridge that is connected and working in the Philips Hue app. This is the device iPaaS.com sends commands to.

  • One subscription per Bridge: a separate iPaaS.com subscription is required for each Hue Bridge you want to control.

Configuration Details

Philips Hue uses OAuth for authentication, so you do not type in a password or token by hand. When you authenticate (see Authentication Methods below), iPaaS.com signs you in to Philips Hue and then fills in the connection values for you:

  • Hue Bridge User: identifies your Bridge. Populated automatically after you authenticate.

  • Access Token: the OAuth token iPaaS.com uses to reach your Bridge. Populated automatically after you authenticate.

  • Refresh Token: used to renew the Access Token when it expires. Populated automatically after you authenticate.

Authentication Methods

Philips Hue uses OAuth. You start the connection from iPaaS.com and approve it in your Philips Hue account:

  1. Create the subscription and give it a name, then save it.

  2. Open the Philips Hue subscription settings in iPaaS.com.

  3. Click the Authenticate button in the top toolbar.

  4. Sign in with your Philips Hue account credentials.

  5. Review and grant the requested permissions.

    Philips Hue permission grant screen
  6. After granting permissions, close the confirmation page.

  7. Refresh your subscription to confirm the connection. The Hue Bridge User, Access Token, and Refresh Token fields fill in automatically.

iPaaS.com renews the Access Token automatically using the Refresh Token, so you do not normally need to re-authenticate unless the connection is revoked in your Philips Hue account.

Initialization Support

Initialization is not supported for Philips Hue in iPaaS.com. Because this integration sends commands rather than importing data, there is no historical data to load — all mappings are configured as part of the integration setup.

Throttling

Throttling limits how quickly iPaaS.com calls the Philips Hue API so the Bridge is not overwhelmed during heavy activity. The throttle fields are required, but their values are pre-populated by the integration. For more detail, see Subscription Configuration – Edit.
