Alternate IDs

What Alternate IDs are in iPaaS.com: extra business identifiers (UPC, ASIN, MPN) that let each system find an item by its own identifier, and how they differ from External IDs.

How iPaaS.com Thinks About Alternate IDs

Alternate IDs are extra identifiers attached to an item beyond its SKU. An Alternate ID Type defines a kind of identifier - "UPC", "ASIN", "MFR Part#" - and an alternate ID record assigns a value of that type to a specific product or variant. Other systems call these UPC/EAN/GTIN, Barcode, ASIN, or MPN.

Alternate IDs are how iPaaS.com lets every connected system find the same item by its own name for it. A marketplace knows the item by ASIN, the warehouse scans a UPC, the supplier quotes a manufacturer part number - each lives as an alternate ID on the one canonical product, and iPaaS.com can resolve an incoming identifier back to the right record.

Not the same as External IDs. Alternate IDs are business identifiers you can see and map (barcodes, marketplace IDs). External IDs are the platform's internal sync linkage between iPaaS.com and a connected system - different purpose, managed automatically.
